    Hello all,
I went into a local coin store yesterday to ask if they can get me a particular coin or do they just sell whatever walks in the door to be sold. It was the latter. He said the chances of getting exactly what I wanted were remote.

I guess it's all ask around, see what pops up on eBay etc. If anyone knows of another good way to find particular coins, please let me know!

I'm interested in, amongst other things, 1986-89 1oz Nuggets. I saw one on eBay, but for $2500. I wasn't prepared to pay more than $1000 over spot for one oz... is that normal?
    :(

I have what you want, but only 86-88 are nuggets the 89 is the first kangaroo.

Why would you pay $1000 over spot for 1 ounce of gold, that sounds extreme?

You can list your wanted coins in the buy swap section.
Not essential, but the most effective way to get something if you name your prices prepared to pay, specially if you do not get any response for a day or two.

Damn! Until recently I had an 89 uncirculated that was a nugget not a kangaroo.
Some lucky member here scored a rare coin. :)

The 89 uncirc were copies of the 88 proofs. Not rare :(

The 87 uncircs were copies of the 86 proofs and so on.

Thanks all. I know it's probably silly to get a coin for sentimental reasons, but I really wanted one of those to be my first gold coin, to keep my silver company. I was 12 in 1986 and fascinated by the ads for 1oz nuggets I saw on TV. I particularly remember the "Welcome Stranger" and that it was around the $300 mark. I even went into a jewellers to ask about how to get ounces of gold. They said they're over $300, love, and I should just put my money in the bank. I realised no one would sell me anything at that age. (I was easily discouraged back then.) Over the years I saw the gold price go up, both when I had money and when I didn't, and I cursed that jeweller!

I didn't know silver bullion existed until fairly recently, at least in less than giant-block form. Naturally it had to come during a low money period. Still, I'm enjoying stacking what I have.

Attempting to scratch together the money for a Nugget now, I just didn't know if premiums on older coins would be prohibitive, compared to just ordering a new Kangaroo from the mint. :)

    Sorry!
I was taking about the proof version, because no bullion version were made in 86, and he mentioned 86 as the first year he is after (specially if the premium is so high I assume he is looking the proof ).

Oh well, my memory might have been flawed on that one. I was after the bullion version. I didn't know in
which years the various ones were made. I just remember reading the Nuggets were 1986-89. :)
    (he is a she!) ;)

I did sell an 89 to a member here about 10 days ago. She might be interested in reselling that coin to you for a profit.
    Cheers
