a friend of mine is traveling to europe in a few months and is trying to get some euros for his trip, anyone know how to get them in the states without having to pay a large conversion rate?
I never take mony to abroad. When I arrive I take money from local ATM machine, my bank charges me only 5 Euro fee, plus minimal conversion rate.
his bank will charge him a 15$ withdraw fee and 8% conversion. he needs a few grand total so that adds up to a large loss just to get the money from an atm
Take the USD to Europe. The conversion rates are much better, specially on the East. Just avoid conversion at airports and tourist spots. Look for the % between buy and sell rates to compare, as on the East that can be under 1% as you get the rates under 0.5% from the mid rates.
you can also check out first online conversion calculators. It can tell you how much amount you will be actually receiving after conversion so you can question upon the extra charges by the converter(if any).
