Hello all. How do you store your pre-decimal silver? I mean the non-numismatic ones. I don't have a lot, so I've been putting it in plastic sleeves. (I know about the right kind of plastic.) I'm getting the feeling this is probably not necessary, as they're all average circulated and the grade can't really get any worse. How do you store coins that don't really need individual protection? Obviously I can put them in a jar, but I'm planning on having a fair bit of bulk... My uncirculated 1oz coins and rounds are in airtite holders and my crowns, morgan and peace dollars are in staple type cardboard square holders. Any advice? Perhaps an organising system you wish you had from the beginning? How does everyone else keep their stack organised?
I use the coin bags you get from the bank, broken up into 10oz lots. 55x Post 46 florins = 10oz 110 Post 46 shillings = 10oz etc.
hey ag-ness, I'v got myself a little copper treasure chest for those type of coins, it's felt lined. It looks similar to this: [imgz=http://forums.silverstackers.com/uploads/753_140.jpg][/imgz] I wrap a bandana around my head and go "Aaaaarh!" whenever I paw over it.
Similar to big AD I use sandwich bags and store 40 coins in ea, ziplock it roll it up and then a peice up packing tape to hold together as a roll, that way the coins dont move around each other and cause deteriation.
most rolled in glad wrap like the banks roll coins, some in sandwich bags.....and a hand full in a little wooden chest as there is a pirate in all of us... or you can ask aurora et luna as he has some coin capsuls that florins...
Glad Wrap sandwich bags, I used to arrange them into years but frankly I have given up on that. Once in the bags I put them in a biscuit tin. I have a whole load of coins which used to be stored in a cardboard box before I got them, they go black when the box gets wet and goes mouldy. I also find that cardboard boxes can't take the weight of a lot of coins. I am working on a wooden chest to keep them all in.
Thanks for that! I do have a wooden chest I could keep them in, I just wanted to be sure it was ok NOT to fiddle about with plastic album pages for what will be a fair quantity. You're right about the piratey aspect. It is harder to lift up a glass jar and go "Arrrr!"
I store my world silver coins in a supa slims Ranch 130 Filter Tips green bags from woolies ! ( after ive used up the tips for rollies ) i believe Boyou does the same and then they all go into a white thick carton wooden Ikea box type a thing. the coins in better condition are in flips or 2x2 holders and the gold coins and my medieval and ancient coins are in a tie box which is itself in the ikea box. when i take possession of my 1/10 Pt coin which comes in the original case - it will sit on the bottom of the ikea box, next to the tie box.
"I store my world silver coins in a supa slims Ranch 130 Filter Tips green bags from woolies ! I also house some in a few old Benson and Hedges cigarette tins .They fit 20 1966 rounds or a lot of pre-decimal ,quite nicely. And they have a smokey charm about them too I have since sold nearly all my 66 ers ,but kept one for old time sake.
All raw numis coins I sort & slot into 2x2 holders & catalogue, the non numi stuff is then sorted into bags & kept in a cardboard box in the wardrobe.
