I'm looking forward to receiving my silver Queen's Beasts Lion 2oz coins, which I feel are the most beautiful I've seen so far. I know this is a personal thing, but I find the detailed AND shiny finish much more attractive than (for instance) the highly detailed but dull finish of the high relief Nanjing coins discussed recently.

But putting personal preferences aside, I realised I don't know how the various finishes are obtained. Matt is easy to understand, but how do they produce the shiny finish of the Beasts? I'm guessing some sort of electropolishing?

Generally a mirror finish on a coin is achieved with a polished blank and polished dies. Dies take a lot of maintenance.

Really? Wow. I would never have guessed such a lovely finish could be produced that way.
