What can be worse than having Xi Jinping in total control? At least if they fight now they stand a chance of remaining somewhat independent of the murderous PRC.

The alternative is to lie down and accept their fate.

All I've read on Xi Jinping is scary as all get out. He appears to have reached new heights (depths?) of autocratic rule which is extraordinary given the PRC system.

That said, a hard liner like Xi may end up hanging from a tree if the Chinese find too much fault with him. His population control using "China" and social obligation as the big stick could backfire if they get used to the freedoms of capitalism.

The trouble with a brainwashed, simple population is that when they act as a mob they're hard to rein in.

Don’t count too much on this. The PRCs in Singapore are very quiet on HK, very strange as the local Singaporean Chinese bashing of HK protesters has reached extreme heights.

Perhaps they know they might be next? Everyone is only looking out for themselves and their own family. Sun Tzu art of war 36th strategy, when all else fails, FLEE.

Trump’s trade war which preceded the HK riots is a bailout strategy in a way. Withdrawing production from China is bailing out.

When fortress Singapore fell in 1942, all the Europeans tried to get on the freighters leaving Keppel harbour, but only a couple managed to get on board as there was limited space and time to escape. Bombs were falling all over and at least one freighter sunk. No one knew the British will lose. Only the ones that packed their bags and got their tickets managed to leave.

You know what? Nearly 20,000 Australian soldiers were trapped, the lucky ones went to Changi prison, the unlucky ones were sent to build the death railway which was a one way ticket.

Remember a few years back when there was a swell of anti-Japanese sentiment, being riots, Japanese cars being torched etc. The authorities had to work hard to hose that down. The people were ready to destroy all evidence of Japan and the authorities had a large problem since they had trade and other issues to deal with.

So the PRC leaders discovered that the people didn't respond to Party instructions after a certain point. Now imagine that anger directed at the PRC. This is why Tiananmen Square was hammered down with such ferocity.

The other side of obedient Party slaves, is a histrionic beserker approach when that built up anger is uncorked.

people here lack the actual Tienanmen incident, it was about police being roasted beside buses with hand tied behind their backs, many were slaughter
but it was propagandized as the army killing by standers which clearly contradict the tank man, if you watch the full video, the tank did not roll over the man

Try not to believe too much in what comes out of China. Do you know that Xi just sent his daughter to the US? Not an encouraging sign. Perhaps there are other power brokers behind the scene.

Sure there is a chance of peasant uprising but it won't happen because some peasants are unhappy, but more like local government or the entire province rebels which was what led to the demise of the Qing dynasty. Peasants don't have access to arms and will not stand a chance against security forces.

The only chance they stand is to hope the police run out of ammo and they give up to the unarmed populace. It would be a first ever.

It's always obvious later on why a nations people are kept defenseless.
Not to stop crime or accidents or suicides, but to have easy control of the flock with little resistance.

Fear the government that fears your guns.

All governments want control. When a country is weak, even an autocratic government behaves itself because it has to listen to more powerful countries and cannot do as they wish. Even North Korea has to listen to China and China doesn't want trouble with refugees or a nuclear bomb going off in North Korea in an accident.

The US is a very powerful country that doesn't need to listen or need any other country, can you imagine what will happen to this world if the US is an autocratic country with an emperor? It will be like living in a world where Nazi Germany world has conquered Europe or the government in the Hungry Games movie. It's going to suck big time for citizens of the US, and even worst for citizens of other countries subjugated to the US.

The left would love that but the election process keeps it from happening. The constitution stands in their way at every turn and they fight it constantly.
