what sort of wastage do you have from lining the crucible after pouring?

There is a little bit of waste when pouring.
I've since learnt that using borax will solve the problem and make the silver run together so none is wasted =)

Great work pal. If you like, you can be a "rare bar specialist". Rare bars can sell in the forum for significant premiums.

Yeah! I love old silver bars I really like the feel of aged silver and wondering who else has handled it, poured bars are the best I reckon.
I Haven't been stacking very long but I've seen ENGELHARD poured bars with huge premiums, hopefully ill get myself one someday day :p

Nope just a one off really to see what it was like.

I'm an apprentice plumber by trade and I work with a lot of copper that's not that different from silver really, I made a few copper ingots but they are very badly tarnished now they look horrible,
curiosity got the better of me so I melted down some silver. =)

One question - why melt down a pure bar, to make another pure bar?

I could understand if you had an ugly bar - or you wanted to break down a larger bar.

Whats silver's weight to volume ratio? That way you could design a mould that is exactly 10 troy oz

    1kg would break down into 3 10s and a 2oz troy.

Or is it not that simple?

yep you can buy 999. pure shot in a bag, In the video I melt a bar that I just poured before.

I mainly melted it for the experience and enjoyment of melting it down and making a bar myself =)

How will you go about selling this bar in the future, won't you have to get it assayed to prove it is .999 pure silver?

Ill probably keep it, unless I find someone that wants a bar with my name stamped on it =P

but yeah it would be very hard to sell i'd say seeing its not from a reputable company and no quality assurance or anything. But I like it! =)
