That sales pitch fits nicely with the fact that most SS and XR8 drivers I know suffer from small-man's syndrome. The salesman was obviously pitching directly at his biggest market.

I wonder what cars will be racing at Bathurst in 10 years? A gov funded Holden vs gov funded Ford. Or a bunch of cars made in China/India?

Being a Toyota/Lexus man my whole life (in terms of cars) I don't push any particular barrow but many people I know love the quality of Australian made and designed Holdens. True export quality products and engines but have been forced into targetting declining parts of the market by their multinational parents. It'll be interesting to see whether the new (very expensive) Volt gains market share from Prius. We're going to be buying a new small car in the next couple of weeks so it'll be interesting to test drive the Cruze in comparison to its competitors. Will probably also test drive the Alpha's but definitely won't buy one because the stupid advert is right about one thing - it's not a car, it's an Italian piece of crap that'll spend more time giving you anecdotes about what's wrong with it this week than actual driving pleasure.

I've only heard bad things about Cruzes. On the other hand I've only heard good things about Hyundai i30s, especially the diesels. So maybe have a look at one if you can get over the fact it's a Hyundai lol.

Thanks. But not buying a diesel. Hyundai's used to be crap like early Japanese but have gotten noticeably better over the years.

Having worked in the automotive manufacturing industry, and having to visit and view the assembly of Ford, Holden, Toyota and back in the day Nissan, VW, Peugeot etc. I would not buy an Australian assembled vehicle.

Fast forward to today and I now have a Ford Ranger for <2 months. The very first Ford product I have ever owned. It is made in Thailand, and the quality is lacking - for an estimated <$100 per vehicle, it could be a very good vehicle. I would be very surprised if I would buy another Ford product. Surprisingly, it is just not up to the level of other makers from Europe or Japan.

I also have no doubt that the GMH offering would be similar, quality and design wise. Just my 2 cents worth.

Buy Australian...support Australian vehicle manufacturing and the blokes and Shielas that work in the auto industry. ;)

If you can find a comparable imported car and are tossing-off- between an import and an Aussie built car, buy the Aussie. :)

    Buy Holden!

You all should be supporting either Holden or Ford through these tough economic times....Personally I loooove the new LPG "EcoLPi' Falcon........so cheap to run with very minimal servicing costs. Check it out and try the savings calculator on the site below. More money for pms. Thers actually around 65 second hand ones for sale on Carsales.com.au at the moment....all around 25-30k, cheap as chips!.

Holden quality is slipping these days , they keep up to Toyota
But the trim as absolute crap
Ford as usual the worst of the lot , but Ford have never built a quality vehicle , just lots of them

I know somebody who traded in a VE Crumble-door & picked up a new Golf instead ;)
Wasn't happy with the build quality

The German's are producing the best quality vehicles ATM
    BUT
I don't like the trim in ANY new vehicle
BMW build quality is crap compared to VW / AUDI or Mercedes

I worked at HSV for a short while , I don't like the finish at all them (especially for the $ they cost )
The paint for a start , the trim is crap I believe ( but better than Ford )

I'd rather a second hand AMG Merc than a HSV ;)
