I also aware of large importers using Fedex account and they never pay GST.

Call Customs and ask them if the GST Exemption Code "LPM" listed on their website (at http://www.customs.gov.au/site/page5350.asp) has been revoked and if not, is it still Customs policy to refer people to the ATO's GST ruling "GSTR 2003/10" (at http://law.ato.gov.au/pdf/pbr/gstr2003-010.pdf) if they want the legal definition of what is or is not classified as "precious metals" for tax purposes.

Fedex only chance to win against you on court if the can prove Australia Post or UPS is illegally not charging GST on bullions.

This would be the "LPM" code on the customs declaration on the shipment.

Thanks Ronnie. I've been waiting just over 3 weeks since I sent my ruling in.

Recently received a shipment of over $1000 of bullion delivered by FedEx.

Once the package arrived at Customs they emailed me a declaration to sign and fax back and once this was done they did not require any payment of GST.

It looks like they have finally sorted things out. Everything went smoothly and service was excellent.
