Thanks for the opinions, I offered to split the fees 50/50 with the buyer as a gesture of goodwill. That's all I can do. If he will not take it, I will just send him his money back and he would have to cop the fees.
Overseas transactions can be highly stress inducing unfortunately. Good luck Hem9 and buyer X, hope you get an agreeable outcome.
Below really says it all. Hem is not responsible at all. Only Hem can decide (being the innocent party) if buyer will not pay the fee. Buyer bought an amount of items from me, location listed as (an australian state) but I found out he was overseas, I still consented to fulfill the trade. He transferred the payment to my account and it was insufficient.
Maggie has hit the nail on the head..it appears there was attempt to deceive from the beginning. Buyer was not transparent with his location..the original agreement was based on it being Australian transaction.
my point exactly.. the calculation for shipping and final amount is different for national and international... The buyer has deceived his/her location from the beginning.
Stating you are in a state of Australia when you are not is the problem. I don't like it when it is stated for from things like the interweb, beyond the black stump and in the dog house are used. If you are that paranoid just give a state. Given you are going to give out your account name and number and postal address, who do you think you are kidding. I have a long list of members names and home addresses and phone numbers that they wrote on the posted package. Glad some common ground was found for both parties.
I had a Bank fee of $30 for international transfer, argued with bank manager, all he had to say " that's just the way it is"! So i changed bank. Once bitten twice shy.
Glad that it has been sorted but imo the seller did not receive the stated amount and that is that. That is the hassle of international trades that should be the responsibility of the buyer to determine. Too much hassle to determine this? Then stick to purchases within the country you are in. This is doubly true as others have picked up when the stated country location is obviously incorrect. I have accepted less that the stated amount in the past only when it was clearly my fault in quoting an incorrect postage amount. I agree with Chillidog that not putting a State or Country is being overparanoid but, unlike Chillidog, i don't think that it is right to keep a long list of members names and home addresses and phone numbers that they wrote on the posted package, especially of you are not a business. This just makes me wary of such activities.
"Exceptional point" I don't see why the buyer has to automatically pony up given the above observation. Hem9's offer of a 50/50 split is the correct one. Nobody tried to screw any body over it was just the prevailing circumstances that both parties then had to deal with. If the correspondence is Verbatim(And this is my opinion) then both parties need to work on diplomacy skills and not force of will or rightful obligation. Successful result-Well done Hem,smiles all round. REDBACK
It's a tough one, I know where you both are coming from. One thins for sure though, those fees went to a worthy cause.
Update I would like to use this thread to show the context of a possible negative I might receive. (I know I lost my temper for a bit) If people do not want to deal with me because of it (losing my temper), I understand. "I offered to half the cost." buyer: i dont have a paypal account as i said before. hem9: I am doing my best to help you, the best I can come up with is to substitute one xx for a xx (basically from xx-xx ). Does that satisfy you? buyer: tat is so not fair. u received short only xx. why take my xx? hem9: Pls read the pm, xx (xx), I change it for xx (xx) = less xx for fee. buyer: sry, miss out the xx word. ok, i agree. buyer: smile and do u you declare them as? value? hem9: Tell me exactly what amount you want me to write and what description and I will do that for you. buyer: declare them as medallion, value should be xx. but make sure u packed them as tough as possible. And the brand of xx? smile hem9: Ok. If. Can't find a xx I will send a xx (xx) but don't expect a capsule as all my xx are from tubes. buyer: thanks!! xx is better than a xx. Few Hours Later buyer: Mate, im 2nd thoughts. U received my payment within 24 hours after we deal, tats super fast payment, cnt u waive tat little $10 and post the 10 snake to me? I bet my payment is faster than some of the local seller that buzz yr bars yesterday. hem9: Mate You are testing my patience. i am not entitled to help you i could have charged you the whole amount and not ry to find a solution for you as i am.clearly in the right. If you dont like my offer i will refund your money. buyer: U dnt have to shw how rude are u when in talking nicely hem9: Thats it. i will refund your money less relevant fees then leave appropriate feedback. buyer: No thanks! It will be too hassle. I nvr sell to oversea, i have no idea wht the details u want. Just post the stuffs out hem9: Fine i will post your item. i will not post any details of you and i will not leave feedback. buyer: So do i . No more deal in future
I think you handle this well hem9. I only sell a few time...but I usually put something like "International buyer welcome, as long as pay International Registered Post and pay in paypal gift". 5% it could be what seller margin is after wrapping expenses.
I know its not an excuse but I have been a lot of personal issues as well as a lot of trades so I guess my temper got the better of me.
That 2nd part was handled beautifully. You offered him a clear fair compromise +10 mate. You were not clearly in the right though that is kidding yourself, but in the scheme of things your actions were honourable and fair. You have every right to tell him to P.O.Q Do you really care about a neg in this situation where you have brokered a suitable fair outcome for everyone to see? I wouldn't worry about it and if you do get one wear it like a badge of honour. REDBACK
