World trade, especially with corrupt dictators such as Saddam, is riddled with bribery and corruption. Contracts are NOT signed without it. If the contract is lost then Australia's wheat farmers miss out on a sale to one of our biggest customers.

Not strictly AOK but part of the facts of life in world trade.

....and if you want to have a go at JWH, remember that Pres Bush was looking for Egypt's support in the Gulf War, and the Egyptians told the US to lean on us to wipe a wheat debt of US$800 MILLION owing to Australia. Komrade bob hawke did so.

I learnt the facts of life politically a long time ago and what did I find, left wingers and right wingers are all full of BS.

OC..I enjoy your posts and I think I read most of them. Keep posting mate for it won't be long now before the red seats in the PM's plane will be ripped out and replaced with blue or maybe Clive Palmer might use his own aircraft.

She cited Abbott's promise that there would be no "adverse changes" on superannuation before he deferred for two years an increase in compulsory employer superannuation payments from 9 to 12%, and the Coalition's previous vehement opposition to cuts to the baby bonus for second and subsequent children, which the shadow treasurer, Joe Hockey, said late last year was a policy that had been "tried in China".

"This is the same leader of the opposition," she said, "who said we will always protect the baby bonus and there was Joe Hockey wittering on about China's one-child policies, only now to say, 'We'll endorse Labor's abolition of the baby bonus,' and actually it looks like they will go further and take more away from people who have a new child from the family payment system."

In 2012 the Coalition opposed Labor's proposal to cut the baby bonus for second or subsequent children, but in the light of what it calls a "budget emergency" it is now supporting Labor's plan to axe the payment.

Last week Hockey confirmed the Coalition was also likely to scrap Labor's smaller replacement benefit a means-tested family payment worth $2,000 for a first child and $1,000 for subsequent births, although that decision is opposed by some in the shadow cabinet.

SWMBO and I fly in and out of the Gold Coast about 3 times a year, and near the terminal is often parked a couple of old DC9s with 'Minerology' painted on the side. I think it may have an extra wide cargo door and heavy duty seats! ...and hi power engines!

No matter, he will disappear into the dustbin of history in September.

International Monetary Fund chief Christine Lagarde was today questioned by judges in Paris over a corruption scandal.
The Court of Justice of the Republic, a special tribunal qualified to judge the conduct of politicians, believe the 57-year-old may have abused her position as finance minister to help a controversial businessman.

Ms Lagarde is said to have allowed the equivalent of some 270million (AU$495m) to be awarded to Bernard Tapie, a convicted football match-fixer and tax dodger who supported her governing UMP party.
Ms Lagarde, a former synchronised swimming champion, has denied any wrongdoing, saying: 'If it's decided to continue with this inquiry it won't be particularly surprising. Personally, it doesn't worry me at all I didn't benefit personally'.
