Hey Guys, Just need some help figuring more out about this piece. So far i know that it is from sheffield. Is it also safe to assume that the third stamp is a lion, meaning sterling silver? Cheers
Not 100% sure if the 3rd stamp is a lion as there is Sheffield plate out there so it would need to be tested to be sure.
Sorry mate its silver plated , not a lion but a mutilated beaver, that electroplate mark was used by John Sherwood & Sons until about 1897 when the crown in a cartouche was banned on British silverplate John Sherwood and sons http://www.bexfield.co.uk/thefinial/v13-06/pg16.htm
Sure it's not a platypus? Where's SpacePete when you need him, he'd be able to mock up a pretty convincing monotreme from that stamp
