Can someone give me an example of how much silver I could expect in a swap for a 2.5 oz pm gold bar. I'm not exactly sure how to calculate.
    Cheers

2.5oz gold at $1657.87 an oz
    Is $4144.67

    In silver $4144.67
    $706.60 A kilo =
    4144.67 divide 706.60

    5.865 kgs of silver

    Or
32.151 oz per kilo multiply 5.865
    =

    188.57 oz of silver

So you should get 190oz give or take

    Multiply 2.5 x current gsr 75.4 = 188.5oz

So you divide the silver to gold price and it's close to
    187.3498871331828 oz
Varied by where we get the current price from. Thanks carloc.
So what is generally the magic gsr ratio for this sort of trade gsr is sitting just under 75. Is it just a personal choice or is there a magic number in the ratio

It's decided between the parties depending on the premium of both the silver and gold on offer

Yea a 2.5 oz loaf should be selling at the spot price or verry close to it
If you were to get A silver bar 187ozs
    That would be fair trade
However if it was smaller bars of silver making up that amount example

    18 10oz bars 1 5oz bar and 2 1oz bars
You may expect to get a little less silver
As the the smaller the size of the bars the more premium over spot they usualy have
This would be verry small atm alot of generic silver is selling for spot price maybye plus 1 to 2 percent

Generic silver is silver that has no numasmatic value or collectible value
Generic always sells closer to spot

And as Red back said it depends on what the offer is
There is silver that sells for several times the spot price per oz

I assume you are looking at a generic gold to silver trade

Its much harder to do a gold for silver trade at the moment!
Most stackers feel their silver is currently very undervalued vis a vis to gold.
I conducted a trade yesterday @ 1/73 which I thought was fair for both parties.
Traded 10 x 5 grams PM cards for 3 x 1 kg bars, a tube of ASE and a Libertad.
I think both parties was happy with the outcome.
If you want a trade @ 1/75, expect lots of offers that include 50% pre-decimals
