That was really interesting.
Panning to earn a crust can be a harsh lesson in reality...
You have to remember that outside of our little western paradise in Ozzie, most of the world lives on just a couple bucks a day and the effort to earn that compared to the bullshit we do here to 'earn a living' might be considered extremely fortunate to the many.
It's no wonder people will risk life and limb to jump on a boat to get here. To those people, just landing on our shores with our joke of a welfare system is like winning the lottery. The 'dole' is subsistence living to us... to people like this it's paradise.
Harkens back to something we have forgotten about the value of what we stack today in that through history, the average days' wage for labour is valued at 1/10th an Oz of silver.
This would pay for your food, shelter, taxes and other essential living needs for a day through most of human history.
In today's dollars, we're talking about $3.50 in silver.
That's more than what most people out there in the world are living on right now.
Worth thinking about before buying that extra cup of coffee in the morning....
Thanks for the link btw!
Aus, this is what you have the lovely knack of doing to my mind...
Time to go ruminate on that powerful thought...
Just remember that the establishment isn't seeking to make everyone else in the world rise up to our standard of living, but rather drive our standard of living down to theirs.
