I stayed in South Korea for a week and here is my observation: Along with many small coin store, most of the local numismatic coins currently on sale are Olympic, Papal and Commemorative festive coin. There are a lot of USA numismatic coin both in gold and silver Few from Royal Mint and Chinese mint medals. I'm really hunting for N.Korean Coins. So, out of curiosity, i asked the prices in the shop of the sets and they are selling it pretty good. The price are sold just almost the same with the common bullion coins (gold). It makes me think for some time, probably the old man (owner) is calculating the price wrong or just putting some small mark up via weight. Finally, i decided to grab few sets, for my collection. Two Pounds, Sovereign and Half Sovereign, 5000 mintage for 2pounds, and 12500 each for sovereign and half sovereign. The reverse of the two pounds bears a new design showing a Scottish thistle and a laurel wreath, super imposed on St. Andrew's Cross. Two Coin Britannia Proof Set - 12500 Mintage
nice coins! What was the price of the 3-coin set in coparison with Apmex's pricing? (in terms of higher/lower) Been eyeing these, but logistic and taxation... kills it. https://www.apmex.com/product/27599/1988-great-britain-3-coin-gold-sovereign-proof-set https://www.apmex.com/product/27598/1987-great-britain-3-coin-gold-sovereign-proof-set
North Korea coins are ban from selling in South Korea in 2017. It is illegal if you found those coin shop is selling
Thanks for info, i found some NK coins in coin stores. They were displayed not hidden at all. Some of them are old ones but bit pricey. If you pass along underpass station in every city, you can find 1 or two coin shops. Some hobby shop or antique & art stores are also around. Lucky i dont buy yet a set of coins in album because i feel them expensive for its condition.
Those with country badge nk coin which are more at Europe. The mintage of heaven he silver is very high. The new items with building and badge (important event) are mainly in Asia for 1 oz silver 500 mintage and 1 oz gold 50 mintage. Definate, it is not an bullion coin price. It is more on numic price with no box. It can grade by pcgs.
