So..... not much is happening on the forums at the moment, time to start a new thread. My dad, of all people, sent me an online newsletter from the German retailer Lidl. Lidl, for those of you who don't know, is very similar to Aldi. I think Australia is about the only country in the world without a Lidls, they are massive. Anyway, they send out a weekly offers email and my dad choses to get the German edition because once a year he heads out that way and he likes to be informed of the cheap tat he can pick up while he is there (this despit having a ton of Lidls in England which all sell essentially the same stuff). Anyway he sends them to me if he thinks they will be of any use and funnily enough they keep advertising gold coins. http://www.lidl.de/de/Goldmuenzen Unfortunately you can't pick them up in the highstreet shops, you have to get them online. Not sure if they are any good pricewise but approx AUD$54 for a 5g Tuvalu coin. Highest denomination looks to be a Euro 100 for about Euro 700 (AUD 946 for 16g). I have bought from the shops but never online before so I can't say if they are any good (they seem to be charging GST on them as well)
@ 0.5grams, you probably also need a $500 microscope to see it too. Saw one of Aurora's 1gm PAMP, it's....... small. So 0.5gm at 11mm diametre, don't sneeze.
I wanna know why Tuvalu are making a coin with Ayers Rock on it..... Hey let's release some coins with the Statue of Liberty and the Eiffel Tower on it.
Leave the poor buggers alone apparently global warming means they'll be underwater soon so they need to sell their gold to lighten the island up
they were probably just scrapped designs for aussie coins and Tuvalu just got a cheaper rate for using an old die
I was always a fan of Lidl back in the UK. I love the designs on those coins, shame they're only half a gram! They've gotta be a similar size/smaller than the euro 1 cent... crazy, but I would like the planets and Aegyptian series...
I read 0.5g but must have instantly, automatically and subconciously refused to accept that 0.5 could actually exist so rounded up by a factor of 10! I guess if you flips heads or tails it might not come down, reminds me of the aluminium spanish pesetas we had on holiday. 11mm in not much diameter to enjoy any of the fine details of these coins anyway.
That takes me back sooooo much... remember getting a heap of 25 peseta coins (the holey ones) and putting them on shoelaces... was all the rage in the north of England at one time
And the South of England! did the same, every year! I still miss the hollowed out oranges that were refilled with orange ice cream / sorbet and had the lid put back on!
