Considering Geelong thumped Sydney in the last regular season game, the cats would be very unhappy pussies. Half a dozen teams had a very good chance to win the flag this year. Kind Regards non recourse
Have to say what a cracker of a grand final. Being a Swans fan I said this to a Hawks fan at the pub at the end of the third quarter when the Hawks seemed to have all the momentum. All the quarters seemed to go decisively one way. 1st Hawks, 2nd Swans, 3rd Hawks, 4th Swans albeit late. I have to ask though. The Swans behind in the opening minutes that was judged as touched through the goals. I was sure on first sighting that it made it through (soccer scandal style) before being caught by the Hawks player. Why don't they show close ups of the decision like they would in the NRL? The coverage seemed to take the decision and move on, is that fair on us viewers and fans?
I'm not so concerned about a video ref or similar adjudication. Just that we the public don't have the right to see a slow mo replay to see if they got it right. Like they are protecting the umpires against criticism.
AFL uses video referral but only if the umpire is unsighted or unsure. That shot in the first quarter was close but the goal ump had an unimpeded view and was in perfect position. Note that the entire ball has to cross the goal line to be a score. If only 99% of ball over line then no score. I wouldnt have minded a look at a replay, but only between quarters, not when the game is still going.
Well done Swans. Hawthorn were stiff, but didnt kick straight enough. Many will say their team could've or should've won this years flag. Not me, Geelong finished where they deserved to this year.
