Opinions please http://img52.imageshack.us/i/img4886g.jpg/ if you can see something about this coin that indicates it is a fake please share your thoughts
Just a quick one, by no means an expert, but it does not show the currency denomination, ie. 10 yuan. I think this is so they cannot be charged with copying currency, good luck. Oh, closer look and it has it, sorry cannot help more.
yeah yuan mark is present, but i'm still not convinced its the real deal, perhaps just a poor photo, may just be shade over yuan mark and ag.999 questionable to me, can not find a fake such as this shown on panda collectors site
I've got a gold one and the plastic on the edge is stamped with the words of the mint i think, are there any words around the edge of the plastic? Do silver pandas have words embossed into the holder?
thanks i have already looked there. I do not believe it to be the same as the fakes shown there, it does not have the bodgy indicators shown in as a, b, and c, nor does it have the steps design of the fake. can't see indications of d, e = unsure, and f no. No indications of marks of silver plating. Packaging does not appear as though it is identical to that used by shanghai mint as it ought to be. The mystery continues
Is it in your possession? Have you weighed it? Can you do the water-displace-test-thingie with it? i.e. http://forums.silverstackers.com/topic-6088-how-to-tell-if-gold-is-real.html (post #8, SG of 0.999 silver is approx 10.5) EDIT: The water test probably isn't a good suggestion, seeing as how you would need to remove it from the pouch :/
No. a family member has purchased it online and come to me to clarify if it was identical to what they had seen in my Gold and Silver Panda Coin Buyers Guide, before making payment, it is not one of the fakes listed on his site, i am confident of that much, the seller has stated it is one troy oz but that has not been confirmed. Seller has stated he would not have paid $170 for the coin if he had not believed it was genuine. To me that falls short of a guarantee it is genuine.
Compare the fur from the pic above with this scanned picture. The fur looks much tighter (more of it) on the scanned pic. http://www.pandaamerica.com/upd_images/cns2000pan-1oz.jpg
I would always be highly suspicious of a Panda that's been repackaged into a non mint PVC seal like this one. I have to say this particular coin is one that is commonly copied so chances are it's actually a fake. Genuine 2000 mirror should sell for around $250-300 so if you paid $30 I guess you got a dud. Or the deal of the century? Anyway here's a really good reference to help you decide. http://chinesepandacoin.blogspot.com/search/label/2000
i've just spent the last 10 minutes looking at the images that nugget just linked to...vs the images of the coins you have posted in the PVC sealed slip. i have a feeling its a fake. the chinese characters on the temple side.....just dont match up well with the ones on the images nugget posted....its quite obvious if you study it hard...compare specifically the characters on the "temple" side of the coin.....and more accurately the character that is located at 1 o'clock...its quite obvious that your intended purchase differes to the image posted by nuggett. ps....i just returned from shanghai...having purchased 2011 silver and gold pandas.....the gold pandas are sold in pvc sleeves (with the name of the mint around the perimeter).....and handed to you in such sealed sleeves.. the silver pandas were sold in airtights. and the 2011 pandas have slightly convex faces to their airtights....(both sides).....
sorry mate......my error......dynoman was the one that linked the images i was referring to.....sorry
LOL - mate. It's Saturday night, I have more than a couple of Bourbons under my belt and I'm sporting an attitude of a disgruntled gen-X man with a chip on his shoulder. No need to apologise to me - I was being a prick (kinda) Peace out from a hippy wanna-be
hey nugget.....just had a look at your vids....on your channel.....MATE!!!!...love that gold stash you put away over a year!....that was great going!! i am impressed!
Thanks - positive feedback is really appreciated. There is a poster (not on this forum unfortunately) whose opinion I greatly respect. He believes that the median house price in Melbourne could well hit 50 ounces of Gold at some stage in the future. My initial goal was 5 ounces (10% deposit) then it hit 10 ounces (20% deposit). My goal is still 10 ounces but 12 ounces (1 ounce per month for a calendar year) no doubt will be next then I envisage the goal would be 500 grams. Every bit of gold I've stacked has been a struggle to obtain and as such savoured all the more
yeah projack the frosties i got look like what you have posted and the fur is definately not the same, will go investigate the numbers next.
