Hi all I am from Melbourne, Australia and I am in my mid 20's. I've caught the stacker bug last August and have been stacking little by little ever since. I am excited to be a future contributor to this forum. My mindset is all about collecting at the moment rather than selling/trading but I do want to sell and trade in the future. I do have an eBay account, but eBay has too many fees and lacks the community feel. Can someone please give me tips in terms of security, transaction methods, and also how to get other forum members' trust and also the term 'buzz'(is it when you claim something')? Cheers
Security - Avoid inadvertently giving thieves intel. Don't speak of aspects of your life that may lead to an unveiling of your identity. Use evasive maneuvers to shake anyone who might be tailing you on the way home from a F2F. Don't have the same postage address as where you keep your stack. Get a SDB, or make sure the location of your stack is not obvious (e.g. safe, in plain sight, buried less than 2 feet down). Invest in test materials to ensure fakes are not purchased (big problem on ebay). Transactions - Fiat or silver/gold. Bank transfer if you are willing to risk making your name public. Never on credit, that's counterproductive. Trust - A decent amount of good feedback (10+). Showing your face at meetings (if you are ok with being publicly known). Some are more paranoid than others, so this is variable. Buzz - The equivalent of "dibbs", "baggs", or "shotgun" depending on where you grew up. It is a commitment to purchase at the terms on offer, and first right of refusal if multiple parties are interested (assuming you buzz first).
Hi, collecting is the fun part, buying and selling seems to be where the money is being made. Even when the price of silver is falling some traders are still making money on it. Of course there are things to watch out for, particularly on eBay, but you soon learn to look out for 'Tibetan Silver' and '100mils'. As with most things, the more reading you do before you start buying the better off you are and the fewer mistakes you make.
Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome and to the couple that taken time to give me some tips. Much appreciated.
Hello and thank you. This forum has been a lucky charm so far. Ever since I've joined silver has soared.
Evasive maneuvers I use after a FTF is to either cycle home or get the train then walk. I find people are too damn lazy to walk anywhere these days so they'd probably just give up
Hi All, unfortunately I posted on the wrong thread. So I apologize for that. I will repeat what I sent recently: Quote Hello, I am a "newbie" for this site. These past few days I've been reading various comments on different threads to see whether I would like to join... So here I am! I am still "learning" and eventually - when the time is right - I would like to get your feedback/comments on whether to sell my collection of coins for a fair price OR whether it would be better to hang on to it just that little bit longer! I started my collection a few years back - mainly buying from the Australian Mint and the Perth Mint. A bit here and there. Then I starting losing a bit of interest for awhile, but now after reading all those different threads, it has sparked back some interest again with me. Anyway I will keep reading to see how I go. Unquote BTW - hello to the newbies like me!
Hi K1W1AU55IE Well you're getting closer haha - when you click on the welcome new members section - on the right hand side at the top you'll see >>> post new topic. Just a heads up in case you wanted to start one of your own at anytime - e.g. in the buy & sell or whatever. Anyhow welcome to the forum.
