"If the dollar remains weak and we get further unrest in the Middle East, there is a very reasonable chance for gold to test the record high," Darren Heathcote, head of trading at Investec Australia, told Reuters. http://www.smh.com.au/world/gaddafi...s-of-gold-in-libya-report-20110322-1c4cj.html
Or maybe they both had the same amount, however it was in a unallocated fund somewhere and they only allow 90:1 cash-out ratio hahaha
The Tunisian guy did the smart thing and got his wife to spirit away the gold to the UAE whilst there was still time to get out. Gaddafi has left his run to late I reckon and will go the same way as Saddam.
Gold is the currency of the elite and also of dictators and no doubt many drug barons and arms traders. From memory David Bowie so loved his record company that he demanded payment in gold in one of his contracts.
Sounds like if you wanted to make an offer you would probably have to do it on the southern border with Chad. Might be able to get a discount off spot though if non of the international trading brokers will accept his gold.
Maybe this newfound compassion by the U.N. will result in a gold strike big enough to satisfy all parties concerned, possibly enough gold to keep the game going a little bit longer? The backers, uh, I mean bankers will be happy!
Well, he can stay in my basement if he brings the 143 tonnes of spare change. And I'll even throw in a toothbrush.
Gaddafi did the right thing by stacking and keeping his stack in his home country not like some that have their stacks sitting in a foreign country. But Absolute power has corrupted him absolutely, especially his mind. He should realize now there is no going back for the allies. He will be removed no matter what. There is no way they will allow him to cling onto power and than plot revenge against the west for his current situation. Think of the Lockerbie bombing and numerous other attacks he has organised in the past. His ego has clouded his judgment on this one and I think he is doomed. He didn't have an exit strategy in place which has now left him vulnerable. You watch as the Rebels gain more momentum you will see more defection from the military which is currently supporting him, just like we are seeing in Yemen now. That's the thing, if you leave it too late to defect than you are stuffed and will have to flee like a rat off a sinking ship or pay the ultimate price. It takes courage to defect early, as if you get it wrong you are gone, but leave it too late and you are gone as well. Those that defected early will gain much more power in the new order that follows than those that defect late.
