This is my first time on the forum. I would be very happy to receive any guidance and suggestions how and where to start investing in gold in a small way.

My advice is to buy and hold a single ounce ingot or coin in your hand.
If it doesn't feel 'right'... immediately sell it.
    I bet you won't. :)

Welcome to this forum. Depending on your location you most likely have a bullion dealer close by. Buying from members from here with high feedback scores is as save as buying anywhere else.

You should buy old bullion sovereigns close to spot.

    Welcome :)

Talk to your local bullion dealer and ask them what sells well and is the closest to spot. If you're in Aus anything from the Perth Mint is a good bet and Gold Eagles if in the U.S. The smaller you go, the more of a premium you'll pay.

I like the old gold coins such as Francs, Sovs, Coronas etc as can usually get them close to spot and they're more interesting than generic Certicards.
