Found my first pre-decimal silver this weekend with the detector, and so did my wife. I found two post threepences, and my wife found a post sixpence. Have found heaps of decimal coinage, and a number of pennies, but the predecimal silver has been elusive. Local field has had the top 6" of sod removed for artificial turfing, so while it's been stripped back bare, we've been detecting it. Ran into two other guys with the same idea who also pulled some predecimal silver out. Finding a florin or sterling is my next goal. Wife also found a sterling necklace of about 20g weight as well, but only good for scrap.
Well done GP,i remember my mother gave me that threepence to get an ice cream after school, its mine and i want it back,it had a picture of the Queen on the front. Swing it low and swing it slow.
Nice work GP, but you must be digging an aweful lot of ring pulls if you are digging post 3d's. What machine are you using?
Hi GP For what it is worth, I use minelabs also, I basically ignore anything below a post 6d (not sure where that is on the 705 scale) I know I will miss post 3d's and small gold rings but I also wont dig anywhere near as many unwanted finds and I can cover a heap more ground with my limited detecting time. Works for me and it will increase your silver/ predec rate, that said you still have to walk over it...
one more suggestion if you find a deep park with deep coins I have found the x-terra as deep if not deeper than the ctx nowhere as good at ID'ing but deep with one of these on it http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Coil-NEL...Accessories&hash=item4d1ba05ca0#ht_1928wt_990 think they might make a 3Khz one even better for silver/copper and should be deeper found some nice coins with this combo after etrac explorers thought they had it all never ending hobby if starting on coils etc I know I owned about 20 machines culled them to 3 and they are all great at what they do and do cross over jobs at times great hobby!! slowed down a lot these days but winter coming up is good less eyes and a few places I want to try see what happens
if you are after a detector 1st consider where and what you want to detect once you work that out put up post here and I can help if you so wish, if not no proplemo and happy hunting
