I remember picking cherries when I was like 14 with friends and we made like $14 per bucket or something, some people picked heaps and made alright money, but we were pretty chilled about it and really happy with $70 or whatever for a days work.

Fair work Officers have moved into the Bundaberg area checking out what the workers are receiving in wages..

Maybe they should have a permanent officer doing the rounds all year round.

Are they there because of the story or are they there just doing their normal random checks?

Fair Work Australia target sectors to check up - they have to, especially when they changed the online awards structures a few years back making it next to impossible to find out what you should be paying your workers. We got pinged for under paying our staff, back pay + super in arrears was a bit of a sting, luckily we had only a small staff of casuals.

the rip off is actually written in the contract between farmer and supermarket.

farmer will get the left over of the unsold good from the supermarket, and they can threaten the credit terms...

so the farmer has a choice to sell the produce to the consumers direct, and bypass all the supermarkets. just like the old days
when there was no supermarkets
