Picked up thse 2 a couple of weeks ago . They didn't want to part with them but it's amazing what a bottle of Scotch can do I have XRF tested them & they test at .931 & .934 Yeah make sense of that . They have been checked twice by the local Melbourne Numi's people from auction houses & 2 dealers . All have comfirmed they are fake , weak strikes . I'll bring them to the next Melbourne meeting for people to have a look ,NOT for sale
I guess the Chinese forgers don't mind adding a bit more silver than necessary to their high-end forgeries. I bet they would not do the same with common date average circulated florin knockoffs. The lack of features on the rider's head and body is a dead giveaway. Hope it was a cheap bottle of Scotch you traded for them, spanner Some more info on spotting fakes here https://www.australian-coins.com/blog/2009/11/identifying-a-counterfeit-193435-centenary-florin.html
I had to fight for them ,nearly They didn't want to part with them . Now I have the complete story ,thanks
If I had only a few secs to verify this florin… I’d give it a pass…but closer look, the king’s eye gave t away…
Cool pieces, awesome finds...i haven’t come across a fake one, I have a few lower grade and some higher MS 64, 65 grades, my best example is this one, although not graded... I could'nt get the high resolution that I wanted. to show the full wreath, tail etc..
