We all know that there is fake bullion out there. While one can easily spot most of fake bullion with a naked eye, some bullion is very hard to tell apart from the real thing, but even then you can do further testing using chemicals and special equipment.

Now it wouldn't make much sense for the crooks to forge bullion coins that are non-numismatic, low premium using real silver as I suppose there wouldn't be much money to gain, but I am wondering whether there is any bullion out there that is forged using real silver to make high premium, numismatic coins and bars. Has anyone heard any stories about it or had themselves been duped? Would there be a way to tell apart the fake and real bullion consisting of real silver?

    Absolutely!

There are so many examples of real metal being used to create "copies" you just can't poke a stick. Geez where do you want to start?

Copies of holey dollar and dumps. Using original Spanish coins.

Middle east are famous for copying sovereigns... they're 22 carat too! Typically they have more silver content rather than copper so the color is a bit different.

Tons and tons more examples exist, right back since the creation of money and coinage.

There real point here is that the face value of the coins were more than the content of the coin, so copies were produced. This is a historical fact.

Fast forwards in time and not much has changed.
