Looking for offers on this iconic Modern Chinese Coin
Proof, encapsulated and has a certificate of authenticity.
Mintage of 13,000 but probably much lower.
It doesn't have a case and there are a few fine scuffs on the obverse that the camera can't pick up.
Can meet up in Sydney if you want to check it out before you commit.
Happy to trade for Pandas, bullion, or fiat.

I am sure collectors of Modern Chinese Coins aren't going to worry too much if the Chinese Government fudges the % of gold on these coins.
You are not buying these coins just for its gold content.
You are buying it because its rare and 1979 is considered the starting date of Modern Chinese coins.
Of course everything I just said may be plain bullsh*t since until a few days ago I didn't even know this coin existed.
I am not an expert however I am sure the Chinese Coin experts on this forum would be able to give you a more satisfying answer.

I know this coin. This was also part of a 12 country participation year of the child proof set.
The Chinese gold coin is the 450 Yuan 17.17 grams 900 pure 0.4968oz agw with mintage around 12000

    Very nice coin indeed !!!

I have recently seen one selling for about $4,000 and also a knowledgeable Chinese dealer claiming mintage of 500 which I would not doubt in view of the anomalies and mystery surrounding "actual" mintages of Chinese coins.

I have also seen actual mintage numbers of 12,216 as well

In any case good luck !!!

Highly underrated and exciting coin that really should be on every numismatic collectors wantlist. Right up there with the best designs from the Chinese mint, if not the best! It is streaks ahead of any of the other countries attempts at a YOTC coin and it's incredible to think that this was one of thier first attempts of the modern era. Classic uncluttered design it displays unusual toning as it's not 999 gold. 20 minutes can go by easily without notice studying it's beauty and lustre, trust me. Flawless in proportion and harmony (not always seen in CMC) between mirrored and detail surfaces, your eye wanders over each delightful feature pleasingly. Theme well portrayed of nurture... boy and girl caring for the environment and a hope for the future, sealed forever in gold. Love to find out who the artist was.

I'm interested in any stuff that offers a good return :)

I am impartial on what nationality it is.

So far Pandas have been pretty cool.

I've got my eye on this Year of the Child coin, and some other Chinese Numismatics.

I'm keen on other ideas that offer low risk and high rewards (with minimal effort).

I like Badon's comment: "..I estimate that the entire Chinese coin market is only valued at around $100 million right now. China is a much larger country than the USA, and it will soon have much more money than the USA too, but I'll be conservative. Let's guess that China's coin market will almost match America's within the next 10 to 30 years, and become valued at $10 billion. For that to happen, coin values would have to increase an average of 100 times, or 10,000%..."

"...We're nowhere near a bubble. In fact, this market is just barely getting started..."

Hi nicwinner... that's not true in my experience... I haven't encountered a fake whose quality was close to the real coins.

The issue of fake Chinese coins is mainly hype to scare people away from one of the most profitable market sectors.

Fakes are easy to avoid if you stick to trusted sources. Surprisingly the most easily transactable note in the world is also one of the most faked notes in the world, it is the $100USD. Can you imagine a person being afraid to transact using $100USD bills?

Pandas are not much different in the sense that, something which is of worth is likely to be counterfeited. I don't see the fakes as a deterrent, but rather as a confirmation to invest in Pandas... obviously it is worth faking.
