i know some of you are using this as has been recommended by a few members, please turn it off immediately or risk losing your coins. upgrade immediately to 3.0.5, you should then be safe to continue using (until the next vulnerability is found) https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/7ooack/critical_electrum_vulnerability/
Good work Dozerz and thanks, made me remember about 0.05 btc i forgot about because i used it for about a week only as i dont like the electrum wallet... Promptly emptied and deleting wallet altogether
Name me one person that would not have their wallet password protected? Since everyone has, then it's not a big deal.
haha wow so the devs clearly state it's not a big deal as i quoted above, but you go screaming fire. It's only an issue if you don't have a password. Since everyone has a password, then it effects no one. What are you confused about?? And if for some strange reason you don't have a password then you have bigger issues.
while loss of actual coins only affects those without a password which i agree is unlikely, there are other vulnerabilities in the wallet such as leaking of data and modifying user settings. just trying to help people here who i know use this wallet, other people have been hacked on this forum, but hey no big deal really.
Who cares if someone gets your public key? All they can do with that is view transactions. As for settings Electrum doesn't have many. Anyway it's good to let people know, but not good to create unnecessary panic. When people panic they are more likely to make a mistake. I use Electrum for Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Litecoin and Vertcoin. It's a great lite wallet and no one should feel scared to use it.
Others have been hacked due to lack of security on their part and or because of something out of their control like someone porting their mobile number to a new carrier. I've yet to hear someone getting hacked due to bad wallet software. (though I'm sure it will happen at some point, just not today)
