600 seconds probably because to prevent spam bots from spamming the forums. I think I might bid on this since I have the 1oz... but not the 5oz!
Lol, same here. Can't really do an in-depth study of the coins. I guess looking at coins at work is more tolerable than pron though
Yeah so true, I don't get people who view pron at work that's so dumb. Anyway it's S50Y according to my phone Mintage of the 5oz should be 11000 and the 1oz is 31000. I'll probably bid something, just in case it goes for a bargain price I want that to be mines
I can understand that, but gee what a pain the a__e. If anything makes it too hard to reply. Like in this case. Waiting so long. When will I be able to just reply when I need to?
Cheaper than a 2011 5oz Proof Panda So that raises the question; is the coin suss or problematic? White spots everywhere or something?
wow bargin. Hopefully one of you guys on here won it. If you have the 1987 1oz already the complete set is worth anywhere between $950.00 - $1600.00 depending on the quality of the coins.
The certificate says this set is for the commemoration of the 5th anniversary of the issuance of the Chinese Gold Panda coin. 25000 mintage for 5oz, 30000 for 1oz. 23000 sets of 5oz and 1oz, balance 5oz and 1oz issued singly. I did not realise there were different sets/varieties with different mintages for the 1987 5oz silver panda. I ended up not bidding on this.
I don't think there are varieties for 5oz 1987 (S50Y) there is just confusion regarding mintage numbers because the COA does not match mintage numbers. I believe the figures I quoted above are correct as I pulled them from reliable sources, the COA could very well be wrong (so much for COA right?). Need yennus or some other pro to chime in about this panda Edit: I think ^ post is right; planned and realized mintages are different. ps. Xu Hong has the 5oz OMP proof @ $698 US & the box @ $39 US + shipping
Yes that could be well be. Here is another listing for a 1987 5oz with the mintage listed that matches what I thought it should be (8,540). 140674821806 I'm still not sure if there are differences between this and the one that comes as a commemorative? More recent panda commemoratives have distinguishing features that mark them as different from the normal variety. There seems to be no such difference in the 1987 5oz.

That lighting makes the coin look pretty ugly I think this coin is a pretty good to buy though, quick check of pricepedia shows its price is comparable to 2011 5oz Panda...
Trying to piece all this together. So the planned mintage number of 25,000 stated on the COA is incorrect and 11,000 was the final planned mintage and 8,540 was the achieved mintage according to some sources. Did I get that right?
