*Ugh*... not even a decent fake... But educational nevertheless :)

The 2003 is one of my favorite bears too.

Yea you are right yennus ... not even a decent fake !

I also agree that this is one of my favorite designs as well. :)

It's becoming a very interesting year for variants as well. I know there have been reports of up to 4 varieties which have not been recognized by NGC as of yet but they will eventually. I know that I definitely have two of the 2003 varieties graded and you can see the obvious differences when they are side by side.

Wonder what kind of certificate the guy is sending along with the coin?

Geez that's a bad one - bit like one of those ugly stray dogs you see wandering the streets, 57 different varieties all rolled into 1.

It helps to know that there are no 20 yuan silver pandas. There's a 20 yuan lunar from the early 1980s though (dog maybe?).

I'm sure it's easy for you guys to spot but I can't see why that's a fake and that's why I don't buy them.
My first silver purchase was almost an $8k monster box of 2010 pandas, so glad I didn't buy them now. It's not hard for these guys to make a good fake, I'm sure they make some really bad fakes just to take the pressure off well made fakes. Unless you can test the coins I wouldn't go near them. Even if you know a coin is real you still have to sell it one day and who knows how many well made panda fakes will be around in next few years.

Everyone has their own opinion but as I stated in a previous post ... counterfeiting is rampant with all rare, high value coins, not just Chinese Pandas.

I wish the crappy 1,200 ASE's I purchased in January would have been Chinese Pandas, at least any Pandas dated earlier that 2009 do not fluctuate with PM's like ASE's & Maples.

If a person is going to buy numismatic items, they need to learn and know what they are buying, it just takes a little research is all.

Yes I have and do still buy simple, common bullion but I also enjoy the 300 graded gold/silver/platinum pandas that I own as well ... they have FAR outperformed any of the bullion I own.

In the end, a person has to be comfortable with what they buy ... there are alot of choices so if someone doesnt like Pandas well there is always common bullion.

    It's a matter of choice :)

Good luck and happy collecting :D
