Hello everyone and thanks in advance. I have a strange question. Are there companies that you can send or bring your junk Sterling silver or colectibles to be melted down?

There are plenty of companies that do that ... there’s even some members here I’ve sold scrap to who give a better price too.

Yes, the online "cash for gold" outfits in the US often buy silver as well. They send you a kit, typically a FedEx envelope with a prepaid shipping label. You won't get much for silver in that volume though, meaning the volume you can fit in a FedEx envelope. If you want to sell a full set of cutlery for example, you'll probably need to put together your own package, using a box. You can call them to make arrangements – just google "cash for gold" and you'll see the major buyers.

Here are a few, not sure how far South Carolina is from these, but just do a GGLE search as I did & you may find a closer one than I did.
While you are doing a GGLE SEARCH, do one for 'Farm Girl Jen' in Nth Carolina & say hello from _JOHNLGALT from Australia.

Yeah, many of the companies do that. Are you talking about just getting cash for them... or to make you a bar or custom rounds or something with your silver?

The latter can be done, but it costs a whole lot and usually has minimum order volume.

Hi, some of the benefits of keeping silver coins as is:
    - Coin ASW (actual silver weight) had been assayed already. Ie the mint has face value and year of issue. 1964 quarter, ect
    - Anyone can google the coin and know how much silver is in it.
    - Very tradeable.
    - Can be considered as fractional silver.
Ie if you want to have some 1/2 oz bullion, you will pay a higher premium than a 1 oz coin.

If you want .999 just buy it.

This link is just a random google search on 1964 quarter
