I miss the drachma.. Back in the day 10,000 DRACHMAS would have you partying from Thursday through to Sunday.
If Greece did leave the Euro, would all of Greece's euro's flow back to the remaining euro zone or would most of it be deleted/destroyed? If it did flow back into the remaining euro zone, I would think that this would cause higher inflation, so I would guess most of it would be deleted/destroyed. Any idea's? Cheers
From my readings it seems that most Greeks have been pulling their euro out of the banks for months, either as cash under the bed or gold etc. The point that Greece has a culture of surviving invaders (such as Goldman Sachs and the IMF) will no doubt have provided lots of other hideouts as well.
Hard to pick who is the host and who is the parasite... lines are so blurred, maybe it is a symbiotic relationship. All I know is one (which one???) cannot survive without the other... SO they will remain together
My bet is the greeks will vote in austerity friendly government next election, as 80% dont want to leave the euro.
Good post GP. What it reaffirms is that though Greece MAY leave the Euro, it is not leaving the EU. Many people confuse the two issues, often inadvertantly. There are nations in the EU who don't have the Euro as their shared common currency. I'm not saying its a "bad" thing or a "good" thing. Just pointing out that being a member of the EU is not synonymous with having the Euro as the mandatory currency of member states.
