Greetings guys, As my title says, i've been disenchanted by the state of the financial system and how people are able to get away with the things they have. I reached my threshold probably a little later than most of you guys, and for the past decade i've been really bullish on both stocks and on property. Both to some degree I have somewhat done reasonably well, but then again it's not too difficult to do well in a bubble. I've divested a great deal of my positions, having sold my ppor and most of my stocks and started investing in gold and silver sometime this year. I attribute this to a friend of mine who first made me aware of the great Peter Schiff, after reading alot of what he had to say, along with some other legendary investors such as Jim Rogers, I was pretty much convinced of what impending dangers lurk in our global economy. Anyhow, i'm in my thirties and am an IT consultant.. also run a popular construction and development website, where my passion is in all things architectural. I love seeing progress.. and whenever I get a chance I like to travel, mainly around SE Asia but i'm hoping to see the middle east and egypt soon. It's great reading all the intellectual discussions on this forum, keep up the great work guys. I'll be sure to see you all about the place. Best regards, Howiefied
"Intellectual discussions"? That must be on the premium members section... Anyway welcome, sounds like you have packed quite a bit into 30 years, you started earlier than me at least.
Thanks guys. I had a bit of help early on. The short version of the story, is that I (including my elderly unemployed parents) grew up in a public housing estate, and as typical as governments can be, they decided to kick us out the the minute I obtained full time employment. So I did the sums and decided to pool our family's resources together and buy a house privately and move out. Which in hindsight was a great move, because in the first couple of years due to some coindidence in timing the price of the house skyrocketted doubling in value, I used that equity to invest in other assets (and some leisure ) and it all started from there. Guess the moral of the story is that even when you're down and out and facing possible eviction, another door opens.
DWS aren't too bad, i've had some dealings with them. CSV aren't too bad too, although they've just sold off their technology division to NEC. SMS probably has some upside potential, and are coming along some big contracts in Health and in Mining. I personally don't own any IT shares at the moment though. Looking at more gold mining stocks.. (e.g. NST, RED).
To someone who's new to PMs, i've learnt a great deal on here. Recently stumbled upon the setting up your own SMSF thread, and also took the plunge too after running some numbers on how well run (or badly run) my current super fund is. So yeah that reminds me to pop into that thread and thank those guys.
I figured that'd be the case, I think i've seen some forum go'ers with the same usernames on overclockers australia and whirlpool
CSV now onto the watchlist, thanks. Skaffold program estimates it as currently 29% over-priced on FY12 earnings, but it's been a fair earner and might be a pick-up on a general downturn. Technology One (TNE) also a stock that I follow. Gold stocks are s**t IMHO
Ah, thanks, and i too will add that one to my watchlist. Really? True alot of these gold stocks have alot their value already priced into their respective share prices, but some of them have low production costs and are already producing decent quantities of gold out of the ground. If the SHTF with the whole financial situation, i'd rather be in gold stocks than banking/health/etc.
Welcome aboard Howie I've been on WP since way back, it's the forum that sets the bar IMHO, although I have a different handle over there (one from back in the BBS days! Giving my age away there lol) OCAU is good for a laugh too though, helps keep me keen on OC'ing the kids PC's just for giggles
