Hey guys. Do any of you have a suggestion for a metal detector I could buy that's under $100? Thank you. :)

    Divining rods.

Way cheap and as good as you will get for under $100.

Sell some Silver and buy something half decent.

As it's still not patented, I could probably build you a Rangertell for $99.95 :)

There are some amazing detectors out there. But most are a tad over $100.

This one on ebay would do the job for $24.99

but you need to be a few inches away for a car for it to beep

You can however find Gold Sovereigns with a very cheap detector. You can even find nuggets. But they need to be in its target range of the machine and may need considerable size to respond at depth.

With a $100 budget your only going to be able to afford a toy one or faulty/stolen or really old machine. It may cost you more getting new batteries and parts than the actual machine cost. But it is doable, and you could do it with the best technology available today for $20 - $60 bucks more.

    Minelab Pinpointer VLF $160
    Garretts Pulse induction $160
vibra probe (great for underwater) $120

Or, you can make your own with a calculator joined to an AM radio. The radio is the low frequency receiver and the calculators circuitry puts out a signal. Tune it down low and out of any radio stations band so it crackles. It will blank out on the target.

Is there certain type of calculator you need to use, in order to make it work?

Could go to the pound & hope you find a bloodhound.

Serious, the reason people pay so much for a minelab etc is because they are scouring ground many others have covered & the new machines will find what they left behind. I recommend renting one for a day, would cost about $100 or using the $ on a field trip with instructor.

Honestly if it's Gold you're chasing, I would save up some more cash and get something that you'll actually use.

Check out this post on Prospecting Australia
If your main interest is Coin and Relics, take a look at the Garrett Ace 250 and EURO Ace, both can be purchased new for under $450.

    Cheers,
    Squiggles
