No purity and weight on the coin (as pre-announced). Based on denomination, I would WAG that this is 1KG silver. Clicked on link and although I cannot read Chinese, enough to show that they are maintaining the same weight and denoms. 500 Yuan gold is 31.104 grams (1 troz) of 999 gold but NOT indicated on the coin (again, as pre-announced).
What I meant is to get the 2014 pandas while they are still available, as it will be the last design with the weight stamped on it. To be honest, I feel the new 2015 design looks weird without the weight, and the design leaves much to be desired.
Not happy with the metal type (Au or Ag), weight (31.104 grams or 1 troy ounce) and purity (.999) NOT indicated on the coin. My 1 troy ounce China panda gold collection-in-progress may have just completed with the 2014 issue. I predict a resistance from Panda collectors and subsequent return of the metal, weight and purity coming back in the 2016 issue.
If so, it will make the 2015 issue more valuable. A one off year. sounds good to me. Load the boat. LOL. But I agree, I don't like how it doesn't have weight. Not good.
Similar to 2002 where they pre-announced NOT to change annual designs and just use the 2001 design. Issue limits are a lot higher now than they were 2002, though.
Wow. So they we're going to keep the same panda from 2001 on? If so, I'm glad they came to their senses. I wouldn't own a single panda if they were massed produced like the Eagles. No way.
The design looks like a staged photograph to me. Why is the Panda extending the left foreleg across his body? Why is there a bamboo fence in the background? IMHO, not having the weight is a detriment to sales. Removing the weight makes it all the easier to counterfeit Pandas. The design reminds of animals that are trained to be photographed. Maybe the fact that the design is so unnatural will make it popular. Edit: Pandas used to be a good investment. Now there are issues with counterfeiting, mintage of millions and quality problems.
The 'bamboo curtain' background started in 2009 and has remained in all issues since then. According to the China Mint design engravers, they photograph the pandas in the wild and use specific photos to engrave their designs from.

I would love to see the actual photo of that design. As they say in auditing, this design doesn't pass the smell test.
1 oz 2014 silver panda price dropping in china market since the announcement if 2015 panda design. I am awaiting the market reaction to the 5 oz and kg for the 2014
You would think it would go up, not down. Why do you suppose the price is going down in light of the 2015? The 2015 image more popular? Perhaps they don't agree with dccpa???
Will the lack of fineness and weight have an impact on purchasing them in australia? Also selling these 2015 pandas at a later stage will be harder as they will need to be weighed and XRF before the transaction is completed. Would these new panda be a good investment compaired to the older ones? Here is the gold design they appear to be in the same weights as before just without stating them on the coins.
