So I'm relatively new to stacking - slowing buying a few bars and coins as something comes along that catches my eye. I came across a 10oz Ainslie stacker bar on eBay last week - I really liked the quality finish on the bar, and the way additional bars can 'stack' on top of each other. The eBay seller has been active for over 15 years, with 1000+ positive feedback (dealing predominately in silver coins and bars). I bit the bullet and bought it - paying a slight premium, but still a good deal I thought ($250). When I received the bar in the post today (registered post) - I was disappointed to find a substantial (IMO) dent in 2 corners, which appears to have been caused in transit. Now I know that the bar is still 10oz of silver, however the dents detract from the appearance of the bar IMO, and it now does not sit perfectly flat due to dented corner. In my eyes, it has lost some of its additional value (quality of finish/'stack-ability' has decreased) which I was happy to pay a slight premium for. Have other stackers encountered similar situations in the past? Is it worth raising the issue with the seller? Is there any point in approaching Auspost for possible compensation? (bar was sent registered post, so should have some level of protection/insurance) Or am I over-reacting over the whole situation??
Well v2, that it appears damaged. I would raise it with the seller, worst they can do is nothing. Unfortunately, I doubt AUS post will offer much. All that said, there are 10oz bars on here regularly. Keep an eye out, and you will likely buy better here.
Like buying a car with a nasty dent. throw it around some more and it might get famous like a 5oz bar that was going around a few years ago.
I am less concerned with the dent and more concerned with the grammar. I would prefer. Dented Ainslie bar. What is the effect on value? or In what ways will a minor dent affect the resale price of silver bar?
Ainslie stacker....no real premium to begin with except when buying from Ainslie...they are nice the stacker bars but I don't think Ainslie's have much resale premium.
