Three stores I went to today refused to accept cash. Rebel Sport, Telstra store, and a local coffee shop.

So if cash is such a risk in food handling businesses then why don’t they just keep at set of Tongs for handling cash. I mean we’ve figured out how to keep germs off food. Why can’t we use those methods to deal with cash in a crisis?

I believe it(cash) is still the current Australian currency and there is no current law against its usage by the Federal bank or the government .So unless it is withdrawn (declared illegal if you may)by the any of the parties mentioned I believe they have to accept it.

If any store does not want to accept it,it means for me they dont want my business(which is just fine with me).Im sure I can find stores where the currency happily welcomed....

The surprising thing is, by law they don’t have to accept it. As long as they declare they won’t prior to the transaction starting. It doesn’t seem right but unfortunately it is. So what I did the other day by leaving enough money on the counter and just walking off with the items is still illegal but they’d have to be total morons to pursue it.
In another month I wouldn’t be surprised if it was grouped into the same anti T word charge that people have been hit for when they cough on people.

Yeah I'd just leave the cash and go. It says "for ALL debts public and private".
    Not SOME debts.

They'd better hurry up and sort out some decent internet access outside the major towns and cities if that's going to happen any time soon.

Going completely cashless won't be happening any time soon in AU, I'm only 60 kms out of a major city and my internet is extremely unreliable, we have no fibre optic, and no NBN here.
I can get a max of 2 bars of 4g on a good day if I'm standing it the right spot, usually I get 0 to 1 bar or nothing at all.
We have copper phone lines with dismal download speeds.
    Good old first world problems

    ^^^^

No NBN for you. Telstra / NBN have suspended the NBN rollout due to Covid-19 for the time being.
