Charles attended two weeks ago a charity meeting with Albert of Monaco who tested positive a week ago. Pretty certain explains it.

Shame about Boris contracting CV, I kind of like his style. Before he jumped to politics in earnest he wrote some interesting books - like "Dream of Rome" where his knowledge of Imperial Rome shines nicely. He's not stupid at all.

Given his physical proximity to people now known to be infected, it isn't difficult to believe that Prince Charles has contracted COVID-19,

In the absence of such clear evidence, a skeptic may be right to consider the announcement to be part of a public relations ploy.
    1. Announce his 'sickness', be sure to mention it is mild
    2. He goes off to self-quarantine for two weeks
    3. Announce his 'recovery' live on the BBC, makes public calls for calm and unity
As a well-known senior royal and heir to the throne, he is senior enough 'to matter' but not enough to warrant constant attention.
