We need to ban exports to China, all agricultural, mined ore and gas.

‘Than we can consume more ourself, well at least the people who have saved and have a good nest egg.

The "Fourth Turning " is a fascinating concept and in the big picture seems to explain a lot of what we've seen, and what seems to be shaping up, but is there truth in the theory or is it just our human imaginations and our ability to extrapolate patterns?

I haven't done more than skim the surface of the theory, but on the basis of History Repeating I hope a world war or two are not falling into place again.

I think Beijing have backed themselves into a corner.
They are not winning hearts and minds, the Russians are pissed (not from Vodka), the Europeans aren't happy, the Pacific Nations are un-easy and the Chinese are going to have to deal with President Trump for another term.
The Chinese have also sealed their fate; the Americans will never pay back the Chinese debt. (America will say, Beijing always new the US were bad creditors) So now Beijing can sing for their money. The Chinese banks are in so much debt that they are going to be swamped like a frog at the end of the Oroville Dam in flood. Plenty of countries will be looking else-where to sell their exports.
It's been a great wake-up call for not only Australia but other countries to start living within their means and to become self reliant. If the war drums beat, countries are going to have to bring back industry, just like President Trump has been doing since elected.
Beijing can be thanked (sarcasm) for giving the super-powers the incentive to engage in a heightened level of re-activeness for not only biological, nuclear and electronic warfare a but more dollars into AI. Trumps Space Service is already in full swing, so we'll see more dollars going into "preparing" from above.
Just one note on what's coming; we already know the Americans have AI machines that can move faster than the human eye, I think people are going to be gob smacked at what could eventuate. Reading behind the lines, AI is getting so scary that regardless of who has ambitions of becoming the world power, it's "when" AI becomes smarter than all of us that we will all be changing undies. Personally, I'd say the US is out in front by a long shot, the Chinese are shitting themselves.
    Anyway, I digress.

If Beijing gets so threatening because of a suggested international investigation, it shows their true colours.
I wouldn't be surprised if we see a formal DEFCON 4 if President Trump is re-elected. I think the Americans are already on DEFCON 3 (Non-Declared) Cyber warfare.

I can see a lot of the benefits of globalisation but in the equation of good, bad and net good, we seem to be getting too many of the "bad" outcomes. Probably because of petty nationalism and the amoral greed of multinational corporations.

IT would be interesting to model the actual material consequences of acting in a more local way.

The beef-plot thickens. (Global Times is, of course, CCP mouthpiece.) Hmm... would I rather eat Aussie of Russkie beef? Nom nom nom...

If there have been other intelligent races out there in our galaxy I wonder if any if those races survived the invention of AI.

Its clear there are people saying we shouldn't try and loosen up the grip china has on us.
Are those guys of that way of thinking, under the impression we should just bend over and take it up the clack?

you give a bully a little and they keep coming back for more

Catch the Joe Rogan podcast with Elon Musk. Joe says he fears Skynet and Elon seems to say he has reason to!

A Australian born Chinese friend once told me we need to "loose China to gain the world", starting to make more sense as time goes on.

The elites in China won't care about food, they can afford more expensive food anyway. But they will scream if they can't get hold of the iron or copper ore.

there is no doubt that once the Corona virus established itself in Wuhan and began damaging the Chinese economy that the president sent infected people to every other country to ensure that China was not the only one being damaged. A crime against humanity on a scale never seen before.

Lol. No, if we banned exports we'd have to consume less and you'd be eating your nest eggs.

If folk believe in the Big Bang Theory, perhaps the time frame for the evolution of intelligence is "now" perhaps we will be the first to experience AI "Singularity".
If other intelligence has survived AI we haven't heard from them, we can't find them, perhaps we truly are the first or perhaps we are so insignificant and un-intelligent that we are obsolescent.
