Various "estimates" from the upcoming Champion Hong Kong Auction beginning November 30th

I was surprised that out the 100's of Modern Chinese Coins up for auction that none (that I saw) were in PCGS holders, every coin was NGC graded.

CHINA 1988 1 Oz Gold Medal, Basel Intl, Coin Week $2,500-$5,000

CHINA 1991 Gold Panda [P] Proof set (5) estimate $5,000-$8,000

CHINA 1992 5-piece Gold Panda [P] Proof Set estimate $12,000-$20,000

    1993 5-piece Panda [P] Bimetal Set NGC PF69UC estimate $5,000-$8,000

    1994 5-piece Panda [P] set Gold & Bimetal NGC PF69UC estimate $7,000-$10,000

CHINA 1990 50 Yuan 1/2 Oz Platinum, Panda, NGC PF69 UC estimate $3,500-$6,000

CHINA 1995 100 Yuan 1 Oz Gold Proof, Panda estimate $15,000-$25,000

CHINA 1990 $1500 20 Oz Gold, Dragon and Phoenix estimate $180,000-$360,000

CHINA 1989 $200 Gold Pattern, Dragon and Phoenix, NGC PF69 UC estimate $250,000-$500,000

Mr Comeaux - Have you purchased from this auction?

I notice that you can bid online, however you need to take into account an 18% buyers fee plus shipping. I can't find any shipping fees at the moment.

    Hello Anthony
No I have not participated in the Champion Hong Kong Auction but I have in the Heritage World Coin Auctions. I have an account at Heritage and do make live bids via the internet.

These auctions are fast and furious on the internet as the bidding is fast and items move quickly.

I am not a big fan of these auctions for the reasons you mentioned with high buyers fee but sometimes you can get a good deal or simply the coins you may want are only available in an auction of this nature.

As far as the Hong Kong Auction, the Modern Chinese Coins begin on page 46 or 47 and continue to the last page 63. Out of all the modern Chinese coins on these pages I think I saw maybe 2 or 3 PCGS graded coins and all the rest are NGC.

Kind of puts things into perspective with grading companies when you see all of these $50,000 to $500,000 Chinese coins holdered by NGC :D

Not to mention the "master" of NGC graded Chinese Coins at a whopping $1.3 million !!!

I also mentioned on CCF that the same PCGS ass whipping takes place on the Heritage Auction World & Ancient Coins Signature Auction- New York, NY. January 2-3, 2012.

The large majority of modern Chinese coins in this auction are NGC as well. :)
