Can any body id this specimen? All I know is its possibly 90% silver and is Chinese. Thanks in advance!
Very high chance its fake, some type of token.. possibly temple and tibetian would be my educated guess (the Tibetian Rupee was based off the Queen Victorian Rupee which this medals? design appears to be modelled off). Looks like the tibet style rupee but ive not seen one like this.. looks to be base metal, for every one real one of these that turns up there are buckets of fakes so unless you got this from a trusted source i wouldnt hold out much hope. Try a magnet, then weight it. 1for1
Face on the coin is Emperor Daoguang from China from the Qing dynasty. There are also Chinese emperors from different dynasties in this series of coins, I've seen sets of these coins (think 10 or more coins in a set) selling in Hong Kong (Yau Ma Tei, Temple Street) for about HKD 250 (approx AUD 30), don't believe they are real silver.
Thank you guys, a friend bought it at a flea market the other day so I'm trying to help him ID it. Lamp, is this the set you refer to?
