Just wondering, can NCS remove the whitespots? Anyone had experience with this before?

    How about severe milkspots? Thanks.

I've heard that they can, but it may damage the coin. The white spots are areas in which the silver has been chemically changed, so that area will never be pure silver again.

I do not know much about white spots (milk spots) as I have amazingly/fortunately never been exposed to them.

What I have heard/read is that white spots are primarily caused by impurities that are inherent with silver coin minting are introduced into the metal during the production of the blanks/planchets and that once those impurities are in the metal, they are there for life.

Temporary removal of these white spots on the coin surface has been achieved only to have them reappear again in the future since they are permanently imbedded deeper in the metal.

I am not sure what white spot's significance would be to the grading score of a coin as I have had some collectors tell me that the spots are insignificant while some tell me otherwise

That is all that I know which is not much

Thanks Comeaux. Yeah, I've run into some MS69s which have whitespots... I suppose it doesn't really affect the nature of the coin too much.

IIRC, spots do not effect what grade a coin will receive. It's just that collectors usually don't like them.
