Pancakes Manor in city...they are open 24hrs and you can reserve tables if you want...I dont think they have a separate area but if you book corner tables or something
What are you looking for in a venue? Food Drink Privacy Secure area I have access to a fairly decent venue on the Northside but it doesn't have any food or drink, (It has tea and coffee) but most meetings take place in a pub so people can get alcohol etc. If this wasn't a major factor then I might be able to provide something but it is all the way up in Redcliffe 4020.
The Melbourne Meetings were up until recently held at a Novotel in its meeting rooms which was donated. Fantastic to be able to use those. Alcohol was available at the venue, but I don't think I ever saw anyone grabbing a drink. Maybe because we were running in Sundays at 2:00. I like a quiet, non-public room that we can run a decent auction and other such things. May have a lead on a more central place, but in the meantime, how do people feel about Redcliffe?
We are private and secure! I have lockers on site, just bring a padlock and you can secure your goods. Room fits 80 people comfortably Toilets on site I regularly run coin club tender nights (You need a license to run Auctions), we have microphones and speakers throughout the rooms We have a kitchen, tea and coffee on tap and a microwave / fridge etc. We have a large room and several smaller rooms should you want a really private deal I have a document camera so if you want to examine a coin at x200 magnification and project the image onto a wall, you can (but don't, even the nicest coin looks terrible at that mag) We have free wifi We have computers linked to the projector so if you want to give a presentation (or you want to see my presentation on cleaning coins!) we can accommodate that as well. Tables and chairs of course. Airconditioning, View of Moreton Island Free Parking 2 minutes drive to the beach. Easy to find as it is close to Redcliffe Hospital on the main drag. It is a bit out of the way though so anything more central would probably suit more people.
Central location is more desirable but if it has to be Redcliffe so be it The weekend of 16-17 Feb works for me and I’m assuming it would be held on a Sunday afternoon
Central is better but could find my way to Redcliffe. Mid Feb should work barring any unforeseen work commitments.
I would be keen even though I would have a 2 hr drive to get there. One of the last one I attended was about 5 or 6 years ago and we had it at the Norman hotel which does a great feed has cold beer and we also had a private room upstairs. From memory we did have to pay for the room though, it’s only about 10min from the cbd whick would probably suit anyone coming from interstate. Just a suggestion
Set a date and place and CK and I will fly up from Melbourne. Why not nail down the Redcliffe place on the 17th February and then see who turns up and plan the future ones from there? Over to you Jislizard malachii
Venue won't be a problem, even at the last minute, convincing people to come for a day out at the seaside shouldn't be an issue either. But it is a bit out of the way. If you have an issue with your more central location just let me know and I will get security to remove the door restrictions on Sunday 17th Feb for my venue. Details of the venue can be sent to people interested in coming, but if you can make it to Redcliffe Hospital then you are practically there.
I'm thinking I might have flown up to one of those. I recall RhythmDoctor drove me back to the airport afterwards.
RhythmDoctor did set up some good ones in the past, remember going to a few of them, well worth the trip into town. That venue at the Norman was good too, was that where they had platters of hot food served upstairs? I think you had to pay for the platters and you got the room free, but you couldn't have the room unless you bought the platters. I think the turnout was good but less than catered for so the organisers ended up a bit out of pocket.
I'm alright with the platters.... It might be only a little expense and we can maybe auction some interesting collectable items to cover some of it. Do you know what it would cost?
I’m keen for the meet. Not really sure what goes on or what to bring.. It’d be my first. South of Brissie to cater for the Gold Coast community would be appreciated. Horrie
The Norman is at Woolongabba, sort of in between the Gabba cricket ground and the Princess Alexandra hospital, so yes technically on the south side
So for a private room upstairs at the Norman it’s a minimum spend of $500 in food and drinks or you can hire the room outright for $150.
I am keen would like to listen to the guys that have been doing this for a long time I am out Toowoomba way so midday city centre or geographical centre would work but Redcliffe would be worth the travel if it was going to be a big turnout
