Today I bought a 1996 (Small-date) PCGS MS-69 for USD$ 149 total cost to me. I only discovered silver panda's 4 days ago, after dabbling in silver eagles for a couple of weeks. So after some frantic studying and gathering of statistics I finally made my first buy today at a decent price I hope. Anyway, just had to share.
Welcome to the wonderful world of Pandas! (hopefully) This is just the beginning Congratz on your purchase
Congrats, and welcome. I went through that same feeling too, and even worse now, i'm addicted to collecting them asap, drying up my savings along the way
Thanks all, I'm mostly excited about the investment potential of panda's, after reading the convincing sticky by yennus. Atm my strategy is to buy certified MS68/69 1oz silver panda's with a mintage of 60k or less that costs $200 or less. I'm not concerned about making a full set, I just invest. The coins have to be $200 or less, because I live in South Africa, and there are not a lot of panda investors here. In ZA they have more appreciation for silver eagles, and from my research it will be hard to sell pandas that are worth more than $200. The local market is too small. I am as yet unsure if I should include commemoratives in my portfolio because of the potentially smaller market. I want to get a 1997 Chongqing for about $150 this week, just because I think it is a good price.
I add a few commemoratives ones as i think it make a good investment as they are pretty limited . Only time will prove me right in 30 years down the road when i hand over them to my little gal .
Get both Peter Anthony's and Mr.ge's book before doing any more buying, the market isnt going anywhere fast at the moment so be in no hurry. I'd consider fewer, rarer ones personally <10,000 and treat them as the numis they are, the rarer MCCs i own give me vastly more satisfaction. Most here have bought coins from all over the world so can't see living inSA being a big problem if you ever sell, that's often a big if!
I am but a lowly custodian, you are too kind fish. My friend you are the Panda analyst I'm the go with the gut guy hah. I should quantify my < 10,000 mintage as there are exceptions... when it comes to the '79 yotc silver 1 oz, still looking for a good one reasonably priced, mintage 13kish. Awesome coin! Hold off overpaying as comeaux has stated here more than once it is very rare that you'll not see the same coin again.
I did the same thing, bought a 1996 PCGS MS-69 today. Seller stated as LD, but the label at the slab does not indicate wheather it's LD or SD. Does it it has the same value as those PCGS slabbed coin which cleared labeled LD?
I was not planning on getting the book, but your recommendation changed my mind. I just ordered Peter Anthony's book. I do not relish paying $1000 for a single coin, I'm not that well off to feel comfortable doing so. And I don't think it is necessary yet, I'm still a student with no income, one day I might be able to buy 10k mintage coins though.
When i begin with mcc. One year ago i think the same.Begin with 2011 capsules pandas. (near spot). But when comeaux infected me with the ngc thing i begin collecting. But my investor side buy the < 150 coins less than 2009 when i saw it. (less year 199x better). Im a financial and tax advisor in my country. But when i change to a infected pandamania boy. I begin thinking diferent, 2000 frosted, mirror, gow, sicf 2012 5 oz and more. And i think im the only south american collecting pandas in ncs/ngc slabs. But i say in this forum. In a long long time i dont care about it. Because the pandas are world market. And i will take a fly in airplane to sell my rarities and change for a lot of global credits or the new money in the future.
I've met Panda fans all over the world, and all over Australia... many people often think they are the only Panda fan in their region... but when a Panda Party happens, people are often surprised by how many other people collect Pandas in their region
I am thinking if next time all this bears get so expensive , maybe the only way is to send them to auction house to sell them .
