hey all, just thought I'll share some interesting news regarding bitcoin. I'm in Tokyo atm and saw a major department store accepts bitcoin as payment. This store sells everything you could dream of, so you're not limited in any way. The store would be like jbhifi but MUCH bigger and better. So there you go, bitcoin is starting to being used as a legitimate currency. and for anyone that missed an older post, KJC bullion in Sydney fully accept bitcoin too. I highly recommend you check them out.
Here is a web link http://www.biccamera.co.jp.e.lj.hp.transer.com/shopguide/campaign/bitcoin/index.html Looks like it's limited to 100,000 yen per transaction. So about $1100 aud.
Do they only accept Bitcoin? And is NEM a big thing in Japan? I would assume NEM would take faster to process than Bitcoin.
If you pay a high fee (about $5) it will get confirmed in less then 30min. Not a big deal when buying in a store like that.
I haven't seen any other signs saying they accept any other crypto and I can't speak Japanese so wouldn't know how to ask. I'll keep an eye out though.
Ah they actually announced it in the news earlier this year that Bic Camera would be accepting Bitcoin as a form of payment at all their stores. How cool is that? https://asia.nikkei.com/Business/Companies/Japan-s-Bic-Camera-to-accept-bitcoin-nationwide
Not bad I believe about 300,000 retails stores accept it. The only hiccup is the 1 to 2 % transaction fee, in a country where no one expects to pay a surcharge.
