Hi there forumers! I'm new here and from Malaysia. Was wondering what would be the best panda coin I could get below USD300? I would like to get one and keep it for quite awhile. Was looking at the 1oz 1994 Panda MS68 LD cause the SD is over my budget and 1994 is my birth year anyways :)
So what would be the best? Thanks

Yes but in saying that I believe the 2012 pandas will do well over time, just as the other years.

Also if you're like me I get the cheapest silver above spot, I'm not into the big premium stuff, that's just me though, good luck !

If you are patient you should be able to get a MS 69 1994 Small Date Panda for under $300.00 Don't know if that is the best one to invest but since its your birth year...

Anyway if you are interested I have a NGC MS-68 1994 SMALL Date Panda for the special price of US$150 including regular shipping to Malaysia. Paypal Gift only and you bear the postal risk.

Don't know enought to pick the best. But at a guess I'd go 1998 because it's mintage is the lowest in your price range. Experts please correct me. SD are the cheaper & with postage from eBay are about 300$. Tell anyone what you paid & they think ur crazy, $300/oz but in 10 years who knows? Have not seen a LD for awhile, the airshow are nice but the expo is really beautiful & expensive.

I really like the 1999 expo, nice coin that even people who know jack shoot about metals (let alone MCC) admire. Add a bit of gold plate to a panda bear & they think it's worth at least $250! Have a look in the buy/swap/sell - ms69 should be what to go for.

I wish they made panda early 70's. I'd get my birth year.
At your age you really should buy NCS conserved coins, get a 10 slab box off eBay, make it your mission to fill it up then put it away until your 30+

Nice see young people thinking in investments.
I prefer spread the total in more coins
The 1996 and 1997 SD and LD go for 150 aprox.
The ms68 from silverfever is a very good price.

smokymcpot, Best for investment, or best looking? I guess both:)

    +1,

    - 1998SD or 1999SD are the first panda that comes to mind if you are looking for Best(overall) panda for less than $300
Low mintage, prooflike mirror finish (1999), good design

    Other options
    - 2000 frosted panda MS69 is another good one if you can find one for $330-350
(2000 seems to be always in demand)

    - 1999LD for less than $400

    -Gilded pandas (1999/2004/2005/2006)

Sure, buy some books and do plenty of research before you buy anything :) There's a recommendation.

Realistically for $300 anything you get will potentially increase in value.

Lets say we get a 20% increase over the next 12/18 months. This would be good, keep ahead of inflation and be a better than money in the bank getting interest.

If you do some numbers -

    $300 + 20% = $360 or a profit of $60

Now if you purchased something at $250 with 20% growth = $300 or $50 profit

So depending on your time frame and your end goal, the difference may only be a matter of dollars. With one coin this would not make a big difference. Over hundreds it would start to make an impact.

Keep things in perspective. I work on the philosophy of "buy once buy well" and "opportunity seldom knocks twice" you have been given some great Pandas to keep an eye out for. Now you need to keep an eye for one that is a little cheaper. Then BUY IT !! you have done your research, you know it is good value, it has shown consistent growth and should continue, plus there is a limited market.

However, the one thing that I ALWAYS look at as well is how many are available. If you look back to the links posted above you will see a comment regarding, Rarity V availability. I believe that this is a double edged sword. Too many on the market makes them too popular but does increase interest due to the amount around. Opposed to a rarer coin that comes up a few times a year. This rarer coin WILL have a smaller market as not as many people know about them. The big question is what will give the better return ?

    Good Luck
