HMM HMM.............. Library anyone? Not keen on reading a book that is not made from paper. Sucks the deal with the gift cards. 1+ to www.thebookdepository.com Funny thing is if you buy 10 books they arrive in 10 seperate packages?????

I dont like the sit an browse aspect of Borders. Mainly because it results in soiled and creased covers etc which I dont buy. I like my books pristine and virginal. Even after I've read them, my books look pristine. Would never bend a spine etc, even on a paperback.
On the way out of the store, I was talking to someone who told me that they had just turned up for a job interview at Borders. Imagine arriving, and being told "I guess there's not much point having an interview then." Someone should have thought to ring this person beforehand.
I suspect a lot of Boarders staff will be looking for new jobs and bailing out before they actually close. With that halving of the gift voucher value, they're going to be copping shit from customers until the last one leaves and the doors are locked, not to mention dealing with the feeding frenzy if they have a liquidation sale.
+1 I watch the wife like a hawk whenever she reads one of my books - she is a spine-bender and dog-ear pager and occasional 'use the book as a coffee cup mat' kinda person.
The problem is are they even going to get paid for working today? maybe they should call in sick instead. Slam
you had choice not to spend the gift card actually, it was a gift, you didn't lose anything to begin with. Might as well not use the gift card and you would have save the extra 50 bucks.
+2 Me: book is untouched. Her: book looks like a sex crime victim. Appropriate as all she's reading at the moment is The Girl Who Kicked a Fire Breathing Dragon, or somesuch.
Yes ... It was my choice. I chose to participate in the effective (up to) 50% off sale, even though I know I'll be able to get the same stuff at 25% of retail in the closing down sales. I participated today because I wanted a glimpse of what it might be like if a bank run did happen. These gift cards, are like money. When people loose faith in them, they all rush for the doors at once. It was fascinating to see. Mostly, I will be able to look my family member in the eye, and tell them I loved their gift of "The return of Depression Economics". So it's not about saving money at all. It's about fulfilling obligations. Borders obligations to me, and my obligations to the gift giver. Ck.
Melbourne has some too but they want you to purchase the books, LOL you get some death stares after a while. I love Reading's book store though, its such a nice book store with a good collection.
Well I just signed Silver Stackers up to The Book Depository. It's cheaper than Amazon for a number of books.
I wonder how long it takes before someone register the handle "William A. Irvin" ? http://www.bookdepository.com/book/9780932212856/The-Steamer-William-A.-Irvin
I'd have called in sick. If I were at work and customers were rude I'd just call security and get them kicked out. There is no need to do anything to encourage customer loyalty anymore. My kindle gets up to a month from a single charge. It uses extremely little power. These stores went belly up because whilst they were sleeping the world changed. They turned up to a gun fight with a musket and a bright red uniform in a desert whilst the enemy used a Predator drone from an airconditioned bunker. I can research a book, read reviews from real people then if I decide I want it I can have it on my Kindle in about 2 minutes (slow computer at my end). What'd be the process to buy from their store? Far more cumbersome. Speaking of online stores did anyone have a look at Borders online store for eBooks before they went belly up? They didn't even have them in categories! And they wonder why they got creamed I'm actually glad they got what they had coming to them. Maybe the other dinosaurs will wake up to the internet age but I won't hold my breath. Loud mouths with deep pockets will convince authorities to act in big businesses favour.
So what are peoples thoughts about how the sale of gift vouchers will go in the future? If this gets big publicity I suggest that vouchers will be on the nose as gifts from now on..... speaking of which I have one for EB Games........ EDIT TO ADD http://www.fishpond.com.au/ seems to have books at competitive prices
I've been burnt by dishonoured gift vouchers in the past so I just make it known that I'd prefer to receive cash and the giver can come shopping with me to find something worth spending it on. Previous dramas with: - Dymocks - Angus & Robertson - ABC Shop - ezDVD - Sanity - Myer - Several independent book stores - Mirvac "shopping centre wide" vouchers Cash just doesn't have the two pages of terms and conditions or an expiry date.
