Australians Drowning In Debt

    This is the problem - to get elected you have to promise the masses something they want - nobody wants to make the hard unpopular decisions like introducing more taxes, at least not before an election -
    The Carbon Tax is unpopular now and will lead to the demise of Julia but I clearly remember John Hewson saying with his Fightback plan (which caused his demise!) that the Goods and Services Tax would replace income tax - did I miss something? - Now we have two taxes thanks to Howard (who said we would never have a GST!)! I didn't even see a reduction in income tax? Very easy now to lift the rate of the GST whenever there is an emergency as an excuse, it is already much higher in Europe.
    To top it off we have businesses burdened with collecting it !

    Income taxes have dropped significantly over the last 10 yrears.
