    Wow. That is screwed up.

In the event of a natural disaster (or other emergency) every news outlet is constantly providing a nearly continuous stream of relevant information and updates (including - or especially - government announcements).

So why write a law where: "
The only reason I can think of for such a draconian move would be to STOP transmission of unwanted information during an "emergency".

If you don't like these new laws, and let's face it, there's not much to like. Use a proxy service such as newipnow.com.

They put in these laws because we pay them tax and they need something to waste it on. The only function of tax is to increase government size and control :| F'ing control freaks. Do not fear terrorism FEAR BIG GOVERNMENT!!! AARRGGGRRRR RAGE!

Thanks willrocks. Looks like a great service.

Not being a nethead, do you know:
    1. Does it really work?
    2. Is it completely legal or have our overlords already tried to legislate away such services?
    3. Does it interfere in any way with your connections to or contracts with your service provider?

2 years? Heck, there's stuff I wrote in the 90's that's still up on the interwebs.

Everything you put on the internet will be there forever!!!

willrocks - I've tried a VPN last year and it slowed my internet down way too much so I canned it and the search for a better service was put on the backburner. Although it looks like I need to bump it up the list somewhat.

Have you used this the one you mentioned above and if so how was the speed performance?

newipnow.com isn't a VPN (Virtual Private Network) service. It's a proxy service. Proxies are much different from a VPN, and usually a lot faster.

I use newipnow.com all the time for standard browsing (port 80) and it hasn't slowed that down noticeably for me.

I don't use the proxy for SSL (https://), as that communication is already hidden, and usually password protected (mostly banking ... etc).

For ultimate privacy you can use TOR (www.torproject.org). Just don't use it for anything secure (i.e. banking) as others in the TOR network can potentially see what your're doing. However it's virtually impossible to trace it back to your IP address.

totally agree with this statement. the database rendered privacy defunct. that's the two edged sword of technology, isn't it. people love to use it, but you are owned when you use it.
