Unconfirmed but our local post master told us today that all of the red pre-paid satchels can now be loaded with any weight up to 5Kg even if it's a small bag like a 500 gram bag. Can you guys check with your post office and report back?

Yes, those red prepaid sachets that come in 500g, 1Kg, 3Kg and 5Kg. I didn't ask about the Express post bags. The idea seems to be that Aust Post is doing it to try and claw back business from Sendle and such.

True. I posted this morning and the new system favours sending heavy, small items.

I dont think you can use the old 500g for this though, it needs to be the new ones rolled out that have 5kg stated on them. Price is $9.20

I might be wrong about though. The post office software has obviously been updated with the new rates to send things, so maybe you can indeed use the old ones and get the bonus weight. Would be worth asking at the counter though before popping anything in to the big red box!

Looks like the answer is yes, we just went back up with 1.5 Kg in one of the old 500g bags and the postmaster accepted it and turned the screen around to show us that it went through as 5Kg.

The old prepaid satchels still available and no you can't put over the weight limit in them. The new system is disguising a price rise across the board if you look at it closely.

"You can use our old satchels to get the new postage flat rates so long as your item is 5kgs or under. For example, the previous 500g satchel will be treated as a Small, the 1kg satchel will be treated as a Medium, the 3kg satchel will be treated as a Large and the 5kg satchel will treated as an Extra Large."
