If anyone is at a loss for what to do in Bris (isn't that always the case?) looks to be an interesting art auction tomorrow. https://charlestons.com.au/event/br...MIgZPOpsjx2AIVzga8Ch1ehgmtEAEYASAAEgJ62fD_BwE I'd say an art dealer has gone belly up by the look of that inventory.
Not surprised! I have a Abie Loy Kemarre and Gloria Petyarre that I got for a couple of hundred bucks on eBay. The Galleries want $4-5K each, admittedly for larger pieces but I don't need a whole wall covered in blotches. Aboriginal art hasn't taken off overseas but the prices being asked assume that there is a giant market for the stuff. Pop into any gallery in Sydney and they can offer you a selection of Gloria Petyarre or Mitjili Napurrula to match any furniture colour combinations in your room. I like the stuff and give it as presents when family come over but they are churning it out so I can't see it ever becoming worth the value the art galleries are selling it for. Don't really like much of the European artists mentioned and don't know any of the Aussies. Won't be going to the auction though!
A big auction house went bust a few weeks ago. There's probably a lot of their pending listings that need to be disposed of elsewhere. http://www.smh.com.au/national/auct...voluntary-administration-20171226-h0abvf.html
Have always been fascinated by S.Dali and his work. I bet the bidding will be starting with nice reserves And I bet there will be plenty of "absentee bids" to keep the price humming. I also wonder if the 4 photos below Dali arebthe available works. I've always dreamt of owning an original Dali. I wonder if they acceppt Bitcoin.
Yep. He was definitely a strange cat. I called them for a list. About 8 Dali's, all etchings or lithographs. Probably means I could afford one, but if I was going there I'd want the real deal. I'll give it a miss.
So I've listed the Dali's below for those interested. And for all you silver bugs, scroll to the bottom to wet yourselves ☺ -Salvador Dali Lithograph - Anthony and Cleopatra 1979 -Salvador Dali limited edition lithograph, Biblia Sacra Series Vol. 4 plate XVIII c1969, dated and signed in stone -Salvador Dali etching, Don Quixote, signed in plate -Salvador Dali etching, El Cid, signed in plate -Salvador Dali colour engraving, Divine Comedy Series c1960 -Salvador Dali limited edition lithograph, The Harbinger 1980, signed -Salvador Dali limited edition lithograph, Chevalier Surrealiste Kevin Charles (Pro) Hart artist proof solid Sterling Silver (925 sterling) Sculpture, Monday Morning Miner, signed in plate
So I've decided to head on in as it's only 20 minutes drive. And maybe I'll get myself a bargain. I'll keep you posted.
Were you there Barney? I Just got home. I came home empty handed but if you were there until the end I was the guy that low balled a $500 bid on item 237. Kristie Steninng - Dream. The black and white ballerina acrylic.
Wasn’t there ‘til the end, had to go home to swap vehicles. New artwork going on the wall this afternoon.
Nice acquisitions Barney. When I heard that second Hart etching go I nearly turned around to see who it was and thought to myself that has to be a SS member. The Cusick photo definitely doesn't do it justice. The murmur through the crowd when it was displayed suggests how striking it is in life You can actually see me in the first photo. Well my right shoulder at least. I was in the front row with the pale green t-shirt sitting to the right of the guy in the white t-shirt (though the old guy behind me makes it look like his head on my shoulders. I'm not that old!) The guy in the white T did well scoring two Jasper enamels. He got what he came for and dropped about 18k down on the day.
No, I didn't ask and they didn't go into any explanation. Judging by their brochure though it seems they come to Brisbane (They're Sydney based) fairly regularly. On entry I did hear the auctioneer respond to a womans query that they still had a piece available from their last auction. The auctioneers response was that they quite often get reprints of some items.. Generally, from an investment perspective, I avoid signed prints. Signed originals or bust is my motto.
