with items up for auction showing bids in an auction thread seems odd that bids can can be accepted as a a pm with pm bids announced by seller without announcing the bidders identity? who regulates the pm bids? I know its the sellers right to do as they please but it could be quite simple to shil bid by announcement of pm bid just to raise an items current bid price to more in line with the sellers real "bottom line" not saying this happens but but could it?
Not a fan of any type of sale that lacks transparency. Pretty sure auctions with Private Message bids or EOI sales dont breach any rules, I just give them a miss.
Thanks for the answers,I wasnt pointing the finger at anyone on ss at all I just wasnt sure if pm bids during an auction were monitored by the mods. If not then I wouldnt bid in such an auction either
I think the mods have more important things to be doing than watching over some pm bids on someones account that may be auctioning off a silver bar
Can't remember who it was but whenever they held an auction they'd post a pic of the PM and bid amount but block out the name. Only way around it but still easily to faux bid between mates. Although I believe the integrity of the members on here would supersede that kind of behaviour.
There are some people who wont bid in public auction threads for privacy reasons but will bid by PM if thats an option. From the sellers standpoint they might get a better price, but might also get less due to potential bidders being put off by the bidding conditions. Also way more rooting around to verify the bids and winner than timestamped bids in threads. I said im not a fan but people can make up their own minds.
